The Viewmaker has been enhanced to ensure that island compositions using virtual walls are dimensioned consistently with compositions placed on physical walls when using Top/Plan views.
This improvement provides complete and coherent dimensional outputs for island-based designs, supporting clearer drawings, design validation, and reporting.
Key benefits
-
Behavioural pattern: Island compositions and wall compositions behave consistently in Top/Plan views
-
Increased readability: Drawings remain uniform regardless of whether elements are placed on physical walls or virtual walls
-
Consistent output: Dimensioning outputs are complete for both design review and documentation
What this feature does
In Top/Plan view, virtual walls generated by island compositions are now treated exactly like physical walls for dimensioning purposes.
This means that island compositions produce the same type of dimensional information as wall-based compositions.
Dimensioning behavior in Top/Plan views
When this feature is enabled, the Viewmaker generates the following dimensions for virtual walls (islands):
-
Overall island footprint: A single dimension line representing the full length of the island composition, equivalent to the overall wall length dimension used for physical walls.
-
Module and box dimensions: Individual widths of the modules or boxes belonging to the virtual wall, displayed on a subsequent dimension layer and aligned consistently with wall-based dimensioning logic.
- Distance to other boxes: Individual distances between the island and the other boxes in the four directions.
All dimensions follow the same layering logic and visual clarity used for physical wall dimensioning, ensuring uniform output across different design scenarios.
Configuration note
This feature requires specific Viewmaker configuration settings. For technical details about required configuration flags and behavior, see Top/Plan dimensioning for virtual walls: configuration and behavior.
If your design includes items that are not physically connected to a wall or are not aligned with each other, see the article Viewmaker configuration for item grouping (Magic Links) to ensure consistency in the view.

Glossary
- Virtual wall (island)
