To ensure clarity and consistency in both elevation and top view, the Viewmaker has been enhanced to group all elements that belong to the same composition into a single, coherent view, even when elements are not physically connected to a wall or are not perfectly aligned.
This behavior applies to both wall‑based and island‑based compositions and improves the reliability of elevation and plan outputs used for design validation and documentation.
What problem this feature solves
Before this enhancement, elevation and top views could appear incomplete or fragmented in certain scenarios.
Wall compositions
- Elements aligned visually (frontline or backline) but not physically touching the wall could be omitted from the elevation or top view.
- Compositions aligned only on the front could generate cut or partial views when backline alignment differed.
Island compositions
- Elements belonging to the same island could be placed on different virtual walls, resulting in multiple views.
- Finishing elements, such as flanks or panels, could appear in separate views instead of being grouped with the main composition.
These behaviors made elevations harder to read and inconsistent with user expectations.
How elevation and top view grouping works
Viewmaker now ensures that all elements perceived as part of the same composition are grouped into a single elevation and top view.
This means:
- A contiguous, aligned composition always generates one coherent view per relevant context:
- Wall
- Island front
-
Island back
- All elements belonging to the composition are included, even if they do not physically touch the wall.
Behavior for wall compositions
For wall‑based designs:
- Elements aligned along the same frontline or backline are shown together in one view.
- Detached elements are included if they are logically part of the same composition.
- Front‑aligned compositions produce complete views, even when backline alignment differs.
Behavior for island compositions
For island‑based designs:
- Elements placed on the same side of an island (front or back) are grouped into the same virtual wall.
- All elements on that side generate a single view.
- Finishing elements, such as flanks or panels, are included in the same elevation or top view as the main composition.
This ensures that island views are complete and visually consistent.
Configuration note
Item grouping relies on a global Viewmaker configuration setting that enables logical grouping between elements. For technical details, see the article Viewmaker configuration for item grouping (Magic Links).

Glossary
- Elevation view
A vertical representation of a composition, showing elements as seen from the front or back.
- Virtual wall (island)
A logical wall generated by an island composition to support Viewmaker views and grouping.
