LiDAR room scans allow you to create new 3CAD projects using room measurements captured with Cyncly Scan.
Cyncly Scan is a mobile application that uses LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging), a precise technology that uses laser light to measure distances. It scans surfaces and objects to create detailed 3D models, making it perfect for room scanning and design applications. It is available on compatible Apple devices to capture room dimensions and generate a digital representation of a space.
You can import the captured room directly into 3CAD and use it as the starting point for your design.
Using LiDAR Room Scan can help reduce manual room measurements, speed up project setup, and improve design accuracy by providing a real-world reference for the design process.
How LiDAR room scan worksThe workflow consists of three main stages:
The imported room becomes a visual reference within the project and can be used to position products and validate layouts against the measured space. |
Benefits
LiDAR Room Scan helps you:
-
Reduce time spent measuring rooms manually
- Improve dimensional accuracy
- Enhance the customer experience during site surveys
Downloading the Cyncly Scan app
You can search for Cyncly Scan directly from the Apple App Store:
Supported devices
- iPhone Pro models with a LiDAR sensor
- iPad Pro (2020 or later)
Operating System
- iOS 16.4 or later
Creating a new project from a LiDAR scan
1. Scanning your room
- Open Cyncly Scan on your mobile device and select Start Scan.
- The application activates the camera and LiDAR sensor. Allow camera access if prompted.
- Move the camera steadily to allow the app to map surfaces accurately. As you scan, Cyncly Scan reconstructs the room geometry in real time. White lines will trace the edges of each surface, and a 3D model will begin to generate at the bottom of your screen.
For best results:-
Move steadily around the room while keeping the device pointed toward walls, corners, doors, windows, and openings.
-
Keep walls visible throughout the scan.
- Capture the entire room perimeter.
- Avoid sudden camera movements.
-
Move steadily around the room while keeping the device pointed toward walls, corners, doors, windows, and openings.
- Once the scan is complete, click Next, give your design a name, and assign a room type.
- Click Next again; the scan is now saved and is available for import into 3CAD.
2. Importing your scan into 3CAD Next
- In 3CAD Next, start a New Project.
- Assign a customer or click Skip.
- Select LiDAR Scan. This will generate a QR code.
- On the Cyncly Scan app, select Share via QR Code and scan the code displayed in 3CAD Next to import your design directly. The scan data is transferred immediately to the project.
Note: The Cyncly Scan app displays the message Scan was uploaded.
- Once the import is complete, 3CAD Next automatically continues with project creation. When the process finishes, the scanned room appears in the 3CAD Next workspace, ready for you to start designing.
What is imported?
LiDAR Room Scan can capture and reconstruct structural room information, including:
- Walls
- Room boundaries
- Obstacles
Where possible, the scanning process is designed to focus on room geometry rather than existing furniture or cabinetry.
Note: Architectural openings, including windows and doors, must be added manually after the scan has been imported.
Troubleshooting tips
If the imported room does not match the physical space:
- Verify that the entire room perimeter was captured during the scan.
- Repeat the scan using slower and more consistent movements.
- Ensure walls, corners, doors, and windows remain visible during scanning.
- Review important dimensions and make manual adjustments where necessary.
