The Maximum Discount feature lets you control pricing flexibility while safeguarding profitability. It prevents discounts from exceeding a predefined limit in your catalog. This ensures your pricing policy is always enforced, even when order-level discounts are applied.
In this article, you’ll learn what maximum discounts are, why they matter, and how to set them up.
What is Maximum Discount?
The Maximum Discount feature ensures that any discount applied to an entity does not exceed a maximum percentage defined at the entity level. This feature is useful to maintain pricing integrity and prevent excessive discounts.
Key benefits
-
Prevents accidental high or non-compliant discounts.
-
Works automatically during price calculation; no manual intervention needed after setup.
- Ensures consistent pricing policies across your catalog.
How it works
When you set a maximum discount for an entity, the system uses it as a cap. The rules are:
-
No order discount: No discount will apply automatically.
-
If an order discount is applied:
- If it is lower than or equal to the maximum → It is applied as is.
- If it is greater than the maximum → It is reduced to the maximum limit.
Why is this important?
Before this improvement, the maximum discount was treated as a default discount and applied even when no order discount was entered. Now, it only acts as a safeguard — allowing flexibility but preventing unintended large discounts.
Example scenarios
| Item Max Discount | Order Discount | Applied Discount |
|---|---|---|
| 40% | No discount | 0% |
| 40% | 30% | 30% |
| 40% | 50% | 40% |
How to set a Maximum Discount
- In the Supervisor, open the Discount Library.
- Create a new discount or edit an existing one.
- Locate the Type field and select Trim_Maximum.
- Enter the maximum percentage you want to allow (e.g.,
40%) in the Discount Values fields.
There are 5 maximum discounts available for the same entity (max discount 1, ..., max discount 5) that apply independently from one another.
Example: Max discount 2 affects Effective discount 2 and Global discount 2.
- Click Save Discount to save the changes. The system will now apply any order discount up to this limit.
Considerations
- This setting applies at the defined entity level.
- If multiple discount layers (Effective, Global) are used, the cap applies to the final combined discount.
