From an early project creation stage, 3CAD Next provides the possibility to define styles and finishes for the selected model, in a dedicated page ahead of the actual configuration. The variants set in this phase are called header variants.
The attributes configured in the header variants page become the default ones, and from this point forward, each article inserted in the scene will be defined according to the attributes set in the header variants.
Header variants can be overwritten in the planner. The user can reconfigure articles' characteristics at any time, by modifying their individual (or group) variants. This action does not change the default variants selected in the header variants.
To change articles' variants individually, see the How to configure articles' variants article.
To change articles' variants massively, see the The variant applicator article.
Example
When starting a kitchen configuration project, the user sets the header variants so that base units will have handles by default. From this moment, any base unit added to the composition will have a handle by default. However, while configuring, the user can decide to have a specific base unit (or a group of them) having no handle, by setting the unit's variants accordingly.
Header variants are strictly related to the model and the type of product, and are defined in the product catalog (LayEdit); therefore there is no standard set of characteristics, and the header variants' page does not have a preset content.
To set header variants, do the following:
- After selecting the correct commercial model or technical model in the project creation process, the header variants page opens (see the How to create a new project article).
-
Set the desired variants on the right-hand side of the page. Depending on the nature and the quantity of variants, it might be necessary to scroll down the page or browse among multiple tabs.
Header variants are now set and will be inherited by all the articles in the planner.
-
Click on Planner or Inspiration depending on whether you want to start the configuration from scratch or from a gallery item (preset composition).
