This article shows you how to position and resize components more precisely using the new dragger snapping behavior in 3CAD.
When using the dragger handle, the feature automatically snaps objects to walls, wall ends, and POIs (points of interest), such as pillars, doors, and windows, and provides real-time visual feedback.

What’s new?
- Automatic snapping to:
- Wall obstructions (POI)
- Wall ends and edges
- Real-time visual feedback:
- Valid snap targets are highlighted in red during drag
- If the snap target lies beyond the dragging constraints, the red dot is displayed.
How it works
Step 1 – Start a resize or move
Select the element (e.g., base unit filler). Drag it toward the wall or obstruction using the dragger handle.
Step 2 – Automatic snapping
When a valid snap point is detected:
- The element automatically aligns to the wall, wall end, or obstruction.
- Snap points are highlighted in red for clear visibility.
- When constraints block perfect alignment, snapping is skipped. No red snap point is displayed.
Practical example
Scenario
- A kitchen run ends against a wall
- A base unit filler is placed between the last cabinet and a wall end or obstruction (e.g. pillar)
- The user resizes the filler width using the dragger
Step-by-Step Behavior
Case 1 – Snap available (Ideal)
- The user drags the filler toward the wall or pillar
- The system detects wall end or obstruction edge and highlights it in red
- The filler snaps automatically to the boundary
Result:
- Perfect closure
- Filler is flush with wall/obstruction
No manual adjustment needed
Case 2 – Snap Not Possible (Constraint)
- ideal distance = 100 mm
- but filler constraint allows max 97 mm
During drag:
- No snap is applied

- Engine version ≥ 17.20 with POI handling enabled.
