You can add a sloped (pitched) ceiling to your room directly in the 3CAD Next planner. You will start by drawing the ceiling perimeter—just like with a flat ceiling—then enable slope controls and set the heights for the low and high sides.
This article explains the complete workflow for sloped ceilings and includes basic steps for creating both flat and sloped ceilings. To learn how to add a flat ceiling specifically, see Add a flat ceiling to a room.
Important!
- Both standard and custom rooms do not include a ceiling by default. You must create it manually.
-
Ceiling design is independent of floor and wall design. You can create a ceiling without defining walls or flooring.
- Drawing and reshaping the ceiling perimeter are available in 2D view only.
- For sloped ceilings, enable slope mode and set slope heights before other variant changes to avoid incorrect placement.
Add a sloped ceiling to a room
Draw the ceiling perimeter
To insert a ceiling in a room, do the following:
- Open the room in the 3CAD Next planner.
- Select the 2D view.
- Click the Catalog button.
- Click the Select walls icon.
- Select the Flooring & Ceiling tab, then choose Ceiling.
-
Draw the ceiling perimeter:
- Click to set the starting point.
- Drag the cursor and click to define each edge.
- Continue until the full perimeter is complete.
If walls have already been drawn in the planner, wall corners snap to ceiling anchors (circles with four internal arrows) for easier drawing. When finished, press
Esc.
Important!
- The first segment of the sloped ceiling you create is always indicated by a red line called the reference line. Please note that, in the steps below, the reference line must be designated as the lowest side of the sloped ceiling. The ceiling perimeter must be drawn accordingly.
- Always draw the sloped ceiling perimeter in a clockwise direction.
Configure the slope (heights)
After drawing the perimeter, define the sloped shape by setting the low and high reference heights.
- Select the sloped ceiling by clicking on it.
- In the right-hand toolbar, click Slope Mode On/Off to activate sloped-ceiling controls.
- Click one of the anchor points (circular handles) at the opposite side of the reference line. The Ceiling settings dialog opens.
-
In the Ceiling Settings dialog, set:
-
Reference Line Height (the lower side of the slope)
-
Reference Point Height (the higher side of the slope)
-
Reference Line Height (the lower side of the slope)
- Click Confirm. Review the result in 3D. If needed, return to 2D to edit the perimeter or adjust heights.
- Click Projects, then Save Project.
Use case: draw a gable ceiling (double‑pitched ceiling)
A gable ceiling or double‑pitched ceiling is formed by two adjacent sloped ceilings that meet along a ridge line. Build it by creating two separate sloped ceilings that share a common edge, then setting their heights so the higher sides meet at the ridge.
- In 2D, draw the first sloped ceiling perimeter in a clockwise direction over one half of the room (or the first area that will form one side of the gable). The reference line must correspond to the lower part of the slope.
-
In Ceiling Settings, set the two heights:
- Set the high side on the edge that will become the ridge.
- Set the low side on the opposite outer wall edge.
Confirm and preview in 3D.
- Back in 2D, draw the second sloped ceiling so it touches the first along the same ridge edge (no gaps or overlaps).
- Set the second ceiling heights to mirror the first:
- The shared ridge edge must be the high side with the same height value used on the first ceiling’s high side.
- Set the low side on the second ceiling’s outer wall edge.
- Save the project, then verify in 3D that both sloped planes meet cleanly along a continuous ridge. If needed, return to 2D to nudge perimeter anchors for a perfect join.
Next step: After adding a sloped ceiling, continue in Customize the ceiling for materials, colors, beams, and other adjustments.
