In 3CAD Next, the Divider component creates clear separations within a box or cabinet in the planner. Use dividers to split a space into distinct functional areas, such as different product sections. They are quick to insert, easy to adjust, and essential for creating customized spaces.
This article covers dividers for boxes and cabinets. For dividers on windows and French doors, see Using dividers for windows and French doors
.
What the Divider component is
The Divider is a 3CAD Next component that splits a box into sections. A divider does not remove or duplicate the box itself. It introduces an internal split that you define manually, horizontally or vertically.
Note: Box dividers must be enabled and properly configured in the LayEdit rule to function in the planner. The LayEdit rule can also restrict the orientation, quantity, spacing, and increments of dividers, depending on the design. If dividers are not enabled, the divider options and buttons do not appear in the configurator.
"Fixed" partitions can also be defined in the configuration rule. They cannot be changed in the planner, but you can manually add further separations inside each predefined partition.
What you can do with dividers
- Create one or more separations within a box
- Divide a space horizontally or vertically, depending on design needs
- Adjust the divider position with full precision, according to the project's specifics
- Maintain the box's dimensions while segmenting the interior space
Practical uses
- Splitting a wardrobe box into multiple compartments
- Creating shelves within a storage unit
- Defining separate functional areas inside a single structure
How to open the Divider maker
- Open the planner in 3CAD Next.
- Add the box you want to divide to the scene.
Note: Dividers must be enabled and set in the configuration rule (LayEdit). If not, the divider options and buttons do not appear in the configurator.
- Select the box.
- Open the Variants menu.
- Click the box image in the menu to open the mask with the divider's options (variants). The available options differ based on the design.
- Open the Divider maker interface using any of these methods:
- Click Open Divider in the divider mask.
- In 3D, click Tools in the top bar > Functionality > Open Divider
- In 2D, click the Divider icon in the toolbar. See here for more details.
- Click Open Divider in the divider mask.
How to create divisions in the Divider maker
You can create divisions in two ways: by dragging dividers into position, or by splitting the area into equal sections.
- Create the divisions using one of these methods:
-
Drag dividers manually.
In the Divider maker, click Create Divisions and drag a divider into position. Move the cursor horizontally or vertically to set its direction. Repeat to add more dividers.
-
Split the area into equal sections.
Use this method when you need sections of the same size. In the Divider maker, click the area inside the element. The Split Area section appears. Enter the number of Horizontal and Vertical sections you need, then click Split. The preview in the Divider maker updates to show the dividers.Example
To divide an element into 2 identical vertical sections, enter1in Horizontal and2in Vertical, then click Split.
-
Drag dividers manually.
- Click Apply to confirm. The element is now split into two or more sections.
How to change the divider options (variants)
Single-click the box image in the Variants menu to open the mask with the divider's variants. The available variants depend on the design and are configured in the LayEdit rule. Examples include front type, handle type, color, material, and integrated elements.
How to position a divider precisely
Open the Divider maker, then use either method:
-
Method A (visual): Click Move Divisions and drag the divider.
-
Method B (exact values): Click the divider. The Edit Division section appears on the left. Enter the Left/top distance, the Right/bottom distance, or a Percentage.
Note: For box dividers, the LayEdit rule can limit how dividers are positioned, depending on the project.
How to delete a divider
- Open the Divider maker.
- Select the division you want to remove. The Edit Division section appears.
- Click Delete on the left side of the interface.
Tips for best use
- Review divider positions in 3D view to confirm spatial accuracy.
- Adjust divider placement carefully to maintain symmetry or alignment of the design.
- Combine multiple dividers for complex layouts, if permitted in the project.
- Remember that dividers do not alter the box's external dimensions.
